Happiness is a feeling that people strive for throughout their life. It is the one feeling that gives a purpose to everyone. Of all the sentiments in the world, happiness is the one which is thoroughly loved by everyone. The pure pleasure of feeling happy is like experiencing something great.
However, the world has become so fast paced and materialistic that people lose sight of what is exactly the most important. People crave for the bigger things in life that may not mean as much in the long run. That is why; many people are now slowly realizing the mistake in this rush and are trying to fix it by going back to the basics.
In the old days, people needed little to be happy. The small things in life gave them great pleasure and happiness. As a result, there were more smiles on everyone’s faces.
Nowadays, the most common emotion is stress. People stress out over little things that don’t mean anything in the real scheme of things. High stress levels cause a variety of illness that affects health and stability. This is why people are now learning new ways of reducing their stress levels with the aim of being happy all the time instead.

Find a passion

If you find something you are passionate about, indulging in your passion can certainly give you a lot of happiness. People usually have passions but in the race of life they tend to forget what these passions really are. So, ask yourself, make a list and find your passion for starters. After that, take time out of your daily schedule to practice your passion. You will soon find that the time you spend doing the thing you like most will bring you a great amount of happiness.
Get paid for something you like doing
In short, make your main interest your profession. Most of us get involved in jobs that aren’t really something you like to do. But, the sheer happiness in making your main interest your profession will make you happy throughout your life.
Be in one with nature
Nature is beautiful and every time people spend time in the plain outdoors, they always feel refreshed and better…even happy. A simple walk in the park, a trek to the mountains, a visit to a national park…are all ways to be and stay happy. Make sure you take out time from your schedule for it. Try to go for early morning strolls in the park and you are sure to experience happiness and lots of peace as a result.
Spend quality time with loved ones

Thanks to our hectic schedules and lifestyles, we tend to lose out on actually spending time with the people who matter to us. And when we realize it, it is usually too late. Therefore, a good way to find happiness is to make the extra effort to spend time with the people who matter most to you. Sharing a conversation over a cup of coffee with a loved one for instance can bring you a lot of happiness…the key lies in doing this regularly and not just a few times a month / year.
Play sports

Find a sport you like and take the time to play it, sports refresh your mind and body and can give you a spurt of energy. Depending on your characteristics, find a sport that you like, whether it’s swimming, squash or a game of tennis. Create a group of people who like the same sport as you and make sure you play the sport a couple of times a week.
Take regular holidays

A holiday, a basic break away from the usual routine can give you happiness. Take regular holidays, after every few months. Make use of long weekends if it’s a problem to get sanctioned leave from work. One can experience a lot of happiness in something as simple as exploring new places.
Listen to music

Music frees the soul. So pick a kind you like (rock, pop, classical, jazz etc) and collect or download your favorite kind of music. Listen to it as you go about doing your chores and within no time you will realize that it makes you happy.
Indulge in an extra-curricular activity
If you have ever wondered why children are always so happy and full of joy, it is because they have a great balance between academic and physical work. They play sports and study for exams and that gives them a wholesome view of things. But as adults, we just work and work and work and then take breaks to eat and sleep. So essentially, we don’t live a balanced life. Try and indulge in some kind of extra-curricular activity to make you happy…it can be something as simple as a dance class or an aerobics class…or join a karate class if you like. The point is – do something different besides your daily routine work so you have something to look forward to everyday.
