In the normal course of life there are various questions that make you think deeply about your life, about what needs improvement in it and what’s missing in it. Sometimes, through regular conversations with family or friends, certain topics come up which again get you thinking about whether everything in your life is perfect and the way you always wanted it to be.
Life is a journey in which we get the chance to pursue our dreams and interests. Sometimes we may be successful and sometimes we may not. The point of it all lies in learning and understanding your mistakes and then improving on them constantly. Learning never stops and in a world where technology and material things are abundant neither does wants. This sometimes makes people think about their life, the meaning of it and whether their goals are really in tune with their needs.
Listed below are a few questions that make you think about life:
Are you happy?
When someone suddenly asks you a question of this sort, it will automatically get you thinking about your happiness quotient. You will think about whether your job makes you happy, whether your partner makes you happy, etc. Every aspect of your life will be revisited and that’s why most people avoid answering this question as much as they can.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This question is quite a typical one that gets you thinking about the future. In life, people tend to get accustomed to their daily routines and during this they forget about their future plans and dreams. A question about where they see themselves in the next 5 years will hit you hard and make you think about your old and forgotten dreams and aspirations. Again, like the one above, it will make you rethink the way you live and whether you need to change things to make way for your forgotten plans.
What would you change in your present life / lifestyle to make it better?
People become so comfortable and familiar with their present day life and routines that a question about what they would change in it to make it better would be something to think about. Time is a factor that most people tend not to have enough of. Therefore, even if people would like to change certain things about their life, they may not find the time to do so.
When someone asks you a question based on what you would like to change in your life, it will again get you thinking about your life and what’s missing.
Have you achieved all your dreams?
Everyone sets out in life to achieve their childhood dreams and sometimes along the way they don’t achieve it all but they get the opportunity to achieve some. This therefore makes a question like, “have you achieved all your dreams”, a point of reconsideration about one’s life and dreams.
Do you love your job / profession?
The world is a highly competitive place. Although we are all qualified in certain areas, life may take us to work in a completely different sector…or sometimes, you may be working in the field you studied and got your qualifications in but later you realize that it’s not necessarily your cup of tea. Therefore, if someone were to ask you: “Do you love your job”, you might start thinking about your life and previous decisions and whether or not you really love your job or not.
Are your parents proud of you?
Just like we have our set of dreams for ourselves, our parents too have a set of dreams for us. They may hope you turn into a Doctor or Medical Researcher, but sometimes we may follow our own dreams thus letting them down. But at the end of the day, as long as we are successful, our parents feel a sense of happiness for us. However if someone were still to ask whether your parents are proud of you or not, you may rethink this aspect and wonder if they really are, thus thinking about your life from another perspective.
Would you consider yourself successful when compared to your High School peers?
Everyone dreads the fact of their peers doing better then them. Although you may have the latest and fanciest car and a grand house to live in, you will dread going to your High School reunion because there may be someone better and more successful than you. So yes, when someone asks you, “Whether you consider yourself successful”, you may rethink all your accomplishments and compare them to what your old classmates have accomplished. And if you find out that there are people doing better than you, then you are definitely going to think about life.
What would you do if you got fired?
People these days are so dependant on their jobs that they hardly ever think about eventualities. No one is indispensable and this means that everyone can be fired at some time of time or other. So if someone were to ask you “what you’d do if you got fired”, you would surely start thinking about your job security and life and plans B’s.
