I never understand why but boyfriends make some things so difficult. The other day, I wanted my boyfriend to start exercising. How can a little brawn damage anyone? But he made this simple act so difficult that instead of just asking him, the next day I went and got gym memberships for both of us. Later on, when I surprised him with the memberships, he actually seemed enthusiastic about exercising. My experience affected my take on men and I have come up with following ways to motivate your boyfriend to build muscle:
Ask him to stand in front of the mirror
Guys will probably never accept this in front of anyone but the men in today’s day and age also care about the way they look. To motivate your boyfriend to build some muscles, first talk to him about how he has started looking tired and and his body is gradually falling apart. Once he starts listening to you, tell him all the benefits of exercising regularly. Be subtle and start talking about gym memberships. The transition should not be a very obvious one. The minute he agrees to get a membership (which won’t take long if you play your cards right), drag him to a gym and don’t give him time to change his mind.
Tell him how it will add to his appeal
Men enjoy flattery as much as women if not more. Tell him how exercising regularly and developing muscles is going to add to his sex appeal. It is no secret that girls love guys who have a nice and chiseled body. Not only does it add on to their sex appeal but it also does wonders for their personality. Being his girlfriend, I am sure you wouldn’t want your guy to be flanked by women but an increased attractiveness is a sure shot way to motivate him to build muscles. Just because he will get more attention doesn’t necessarily mean that he will give his attention to other women so don’t feel insecure. After all, we all enjoy getting the attention but do we really give attention to random people?
Tell him that he can use his ‘super strength’ to fight off the bad guys
Every guy wants to be a superhero and you can help him to live his dream. Talk to him about the benefits of hitting the gym regularly starting from the ‘super’ strength to the ‘super’ endurance. But jokes apart, going to the gym really does increase strength and with such a high crime rate, it’s always a good idea to know that you can defend yourself. Even though your boyfriend won’t be learning karate in the gym, his strength can be an advantage in any such situation.
Talk about the health benefits of going to the gym
Exercising has a lot of health benefits apart from the gorgeous rippling muscles which has more to do with lifting weights than doing your average exercises. Not only does it relieve you of stress but it also helps in improving blood circulation, increasing your stamina and helps to keep you healthy even when you start growing old. Share all these health benefits with your boyfriend and if he wants to look younger for longer, going to the gym everyday can be really helpful.
The feel good factor
Going to the gym and building some muscles is going to do wonders for his self esteem. When the cuts will start showing, he will feel very proud (my reluctant boyfriend keep looking at them for about an hour when he first noticed the cuts) and his punctuality with exercising might get a little out of hand. Staying fit will make him a more confident and self assured person.
Talk about other guys who exercise and look irresistible
If your boyfriend doesn’t show any signs of interest in going to the gym yet, drop the plan of making him exercise and start talking about guys who look irresistible because they exercise. Men can’t bear the thought of another guy being more appealing to their women and this idea might encourage them to exercise and develop a nice body.
Tell him about the edge he’d get among-st friends
Another thing men thrive on is competition. Even though they love their friends and wouldn’t hear a single thing against them, when it comes to competing with one another, they can do anything to prove that they are better than their friends. Make him think about how amazing he will look when he will walk up to his friends, all muscular and handsome. Let him imagine the excitement that will follow and the comparison’s that will happen between him and the other guys who gym. This is a tried and tested method and it might work for you as well.
Be his gym partner
If everything else fails, do what I did and surprise him with a gym membership. This is actually the best thing to do because not only do you get to spend some quality time with him but both of you get the much needed exercise without compromising on spending some time together.
Reward him for every completed week
A great way to keep him motivated would be to reward him for every subsequent week he exercises. The rewards can be anything and you can talk to him to see what he would like. Appreciating his efforts will encourage him to put in more.
