How to Be Happy

Happiness is the best feeling in the world. To experience feelings of pure and utter delight, pleasure and happiness is what everyone is actually supposed to strive for in their lifetime but somehow in the mad race to get ahead, everyone’s lost the true essence of it all.

People can be happy over just about anything; it differs from person to person. For some, buying a new car can bring you a lot of happiness although it’s a short lived one or until the time you see a better model that you suddenly urge to own!

Material wealth can bring happiness, but only for a certain amount of time. Lifelong happiness is something that can be attained with the smaller, simpler things in life. For a child for instance, getting to eat a chocolate right before supper time brings happiness as does being gifted a new toy.

Happiness can come through several forms and should be the most sought after emotion in the world, rightfully so. There is nothing that brings cheer to the people around you than you being happy.

Find a passion

Happy people are ones with passions. Passions help you feel refreshed and give you a sense of accomplishment when indulged in. Find a simple passion for yourself, something even like cooking gives many people happiness. The fact that they can churn out delicious eatables that leave everyone asking for more is in itself a source of happiness to them.

Be more positive in life

Positive people don’t get bogged down by little troubles; they find solutions to everything that goes wrong in life. Accept situations, people and things the way they are and this will help you to be happier for longer periods of time.

Surround yourself by people you love

Your family, your friends can be a great source of happiness for you. Surround yourself with them, make time for them. In your old age, it will only be them and their companionship that keeps you going. Do happy things with them, simple things like watching movies, going on holidays, going shopping…

Surround yourself with pets

It’s a proven fact that keeping a pet (even a little dog) can help you stay happy and can relieve you of stress too. The playful characteristics present in a domestic pet can put anyone in a good and happy mood at any time of the day.

Indulge in things you like

If you have a long list of things you enjoy doing like gardening, shopping, exploring places then take the time to indulge in these activities. You will never realize it unless you actually do it – that practicing what makes you happy can keep you happy. Thanks to life’s busy schedules we rarely find time for ourselves and the things we like, this affects our happiness quotient.

Do some charity work

Bringing a little cheer to someone else’s life can give you a sense of happiness. Try to find an old age care centre or maybe an orphanage and do some volunteer work there once a week. The way people live in these centres and the hope that they still have in their eyes will help you be more happy because you will understand and be thankful for all that you do have.

Plan regular holidays

Holidays make people happy. Period. So make sure you take the time out to plan regular holidays to random places within your own country or even across the world. Save up enough money through the year and then enjoy the benefits of your labor by splurging on a holiday. Seeing a new place and meeting new people is always exciting after all.

Stay in love

This is for everyone out there. Love is one of the simplest things that can make anyone who experiences it go straight to the top of the world. Love makes you happy so stay in love if you have been fortunate enough to find someone you like. Love after all is known to make the world go round…now who wouldn’t want that?

Watch happy and fun shows, activities, movies

When you step out for a movie, try to watch some shows that are fun and happy. This will influence your mood too and make you happy in turn! If there aren’t any good movies running, go for a fun play or comedy show! Even if you are watching tv, watch happy serials and home movies to up your happiness quotient.

Learn to laugh

Laughter has always been the best medicine and learning to laugh heartily can go a long way in keeping you happy. Try to find reasons to laugh and if there aren’t then create some.

Explore nature

Nature is one thing that can make you happy. Just sitting by the beach and reading a captivating book or drinking a cup of coffee by a lake are all simple things to make you happy by mixing with nature. Nature always has a soothing effect on the mind and its worth the effort to “hangout” with it!

Treat yourself

If you haven’t had the time to shop for yourself and long for something new then treat yourself, with new clothes, some chocolates, new shoes. Anything you like. Splurge on yourself once in way to stay happy. But obviously, be sure not to over do it.

Explore new things

In tune with exploring new places is the idea of exploring new things that gives a heightened sense of happiness. Go out and see new things, new cultures, new methods…
