Getting married is much bigger than it sounds or feels which is why people get cold feet even minutes before the wedding. A marriage unifies two people on a spiritual level and getting married is one of the most cherished memories in everyone’s life. It is a very serious affair so the bride and the groom try their level best to keep everything going as smoothly as possible. However, try as they might, things can never go according to a given plan, especially in a wedding. The concept of a wedding itself sounds so prim and proper when there are so many funny things about getting married. I have made a list of some of those things:

No matter how much you try, a lot of things will go wrong
Weddings can never be subjected to perfection. They are always eventful irrespective of how hard you try to make them go smooth. That is the first funny thing I noticed about getting married. The funnier part is that people get frustrated over unavoidable mishaps instead of having a good laugh at them.
The bride can never be satisfied
Another funny thing I have noticed over the years is that irrespective of how many compliments a new bride gets for the wedding, she can never deal with it herself. She always keeps wanting more!
Alcohol infused wedding toasts are the best
I went to a wedding a couple of years ago and the one person who stood out for me was the drunk best man. His toast was by far the funniest and he made me realize that a drunk best man is a sight worth waiting for. I don’t think the newly married couple got his jokes but everyone else sure did!
Every bride will have at least one ‘bridezilla’ moment
Brides are usually calm, responsible and logical throughout the wedding but there will be a point of time (sooner or later) when she will flip out and turn into a bridal monster trying to achieve perfection. The switch over from a shy, worried woman who’s about to get married to a demanding, crazy woman and then back again to her old self is simply hilarious.
Mothers can never give enough advice
Whether you talk about a groom’s mother or a bride’s, she can never give enough advice even if no one really wants it. This isn’t worth a riot but it sure is funny considering the extent some mothers can go to in order to get themselves heard.

The couple fights like they hate each other
The couple that is about to get married goes through turbulent times usually because they find it difficult to handle the pressure. So, they vent it out on each other. Really, looking at the way they end up arguing, I cannot help but question their decision of marrying each other but the the moment they kiss, everything goes back to normal. The diabolical human nature is at its funny best when people get married.
A wedding reception always starts with friends and family but turns into a circus
Irrespective of how small the couple wants the reception to be, it usually exceeds close friends and family to include everyone from the neighbors to random friends that the couple made during their courtship. A sad but funny end to all their wedding woes.
No amount of alcohol will ever be enough
Wedding anecdotes about drunk people are usually true and irrespective of how many bottles of wine or champagne you order beforehand, you will always run out of it. Like I said, you can never be fully prepared but watching everyone try to be perfect and slightly tipsy people asking for more alcohol is definitely amusing.
No one cares about the theme once the wedding is in full swing
People might eat your head off by asking you about the theme of the wedding (if any) before they come but it is after they reach that you realize that more than half of them didn’t even dress accordingly. No one really cares about the theme apart from the couple that is getting married!
Everyone feels the need to lose weight
I have seen men and women reacting alike when it comes to losing weight for the wedding. Even though both of them have been with each other for a long time, for some reason they feel the need to lose a lot of weight and look like they are something else to impress each other (and the world) on the big day. This is one of the strangest things about getting married.
You marry more than your partner
Even though you stand on the altar with your better half, you actually marry more than just your partner. You also marry your partner’s family (whether you like it or not) and it’s comical to see them struggling to deal with their partner’s family.
You ‘write’ your own wedding vow and then ‘memorize’ it
Shouldn’t wedding vows come from the heart if not the bible? It’s funny how self written vows are often read from a piece of paper or worse, from the back of his/her palm. Some people can go to extreme lengths to sound just perfect at their wedding.
You marry for better or for worse, literally
It’s funny how true this statement is but what’s funnier is that the couple doesn’t realize the full weight of this statement before they get married.
You marry someone who is NOTHING like you
While growing up, you might have wanted to be with someone who’s just like you but irrespective of how hard you try, you will marry someone who’s nothing like you. If you don’t believe me, compare your partner’s habits and choices with yours.
The day itself is very ironic
Everything, starting from the unnecessarily self created problems to fights between the couple to the happy ending is ironic. Nothing actually happens as per plan but that doesn’t stop the extensive wedding planning or put an end to all the fights. What is it if not ironically humorous especially for people like me who find humor in irony?

What can be funnier than the wedding itself? I mean two people, who are usually total opposites end up getting hitched to each other in probably the most expensive event of their lives! Every wedding has so many stories about so many goof ups but honestly, weddings are special :)
When I got married, the entire wedding party was a crazy nightmare! the DJ didn’t show up on time and I had to run around in my dress and arrange for a band. The cake developed cracks around the edges thanks to all the fondant and well, I did become bridezilla in a way but now when I look back on my wedding day, I do nothing but laugh.
My best man got so drunk at the reception that his speech was a long slur of words after which he tripped and gave us the funniest moment in our reception. Another thing that’s funny is the way some people dance at a wedding. No wonder my wife made me sign up for lessons before the wedding!
Really nice article. There are no examples here though but the points remind me of the funny things that happened at my wedding so it’s a great memory booster! thanks
