Off-Page Over Optimization Issues

By Nimit On February 1, 2010 No Comments

When it comes to off page optimization you start building inbound links for your website. Backlinks are important in order to get the high search engines rankings. But, people start acquiring backlinks to boost the search engines rankings without even thinking that their link building campaign could also harm their website rankings in a negative way. Following are three most important things that you should avoid in your link building campaign.

Building Links Too Fast

Link building is a very time consuming process and in order to build link we usually buy link building services like directory submission, profiles link building, social bookmarking, article submission etc and using these services we able to start acquiring backlinks.

The problem comes when we start over doing it to get the rankings fast. You need to keep in mind that if you have a long term goal with your site then you need to make the link building process as much natural as you can. Getting links to a same page in a high quantity will surely raise the red flag against your site in the eyes of search engines.

Link Distribution

People start creating a link farm in order to increase the number of backlinks but they forget that search engine can easily detect that and will not give any value to those links. Your link building aim should be getting links from variety of sources. Just don’t start getting links from same sources over and over again.

Also, it is not advisable doing reciprocal link exchange between the two sites that belongs to completely different niche.

Same Anchor Text

This is the very common mistake that people do to get the rankings in search engines. We all know having a keyword in anchor text makes our site more relevant in the eyes of search engine for that keyword. But, if we only start getting links with same anchor text this will look very unnatural and search engines will easily detect that and pull back your site rankings for that keyword.

For example if you are targeting a “colon cleansing diet” keyword and you start link building links using the same keyword as anchor text with out using any variation then it will really going to harm your site rankings.

On the last note I just want say that if you have are planning to stay at the top long term in search engines then make the link building process natural. This approach will take time to get you the rankings but it will be very useful for long term.

Also, once you get the rankings for your desired keyword then just don’t stop doing link building. Link building is an ongoing process to stay at the top of the search results

Backlinks plays a vital role since from the starting to a get website indexed to get it ranked for a special keyword. But, do you know what are the factors that influence the backlinks most? If no, then check out the following factors:

Anchor Text:

The text that is used as link to connect with your website is known as anchor text and it is the most influencing factor of backlinks. Google gives anchor text so much value in its algorithm that if you want to get a ranking for a particular keyword, you should consider to get some relevant links from other sites using the keyword as a anchor text to your website.

Relevancy Of Links

The next most influencing factor of backlinks probably is the relevancy of the sites that is linking to your site and the way links is passed on to you( sidebar, footer, contextual link etc). Its always better to get contextual link as they make more sense.

Diversity of Link Sources

The links that comes to your site should not come from a single IP or the sites that are hosted on a same server. You should always focus on to get the links from different number of sites that are hosted on different servers. It is also better if you go and get some links from the sites that does not come under your niche to make the link building process more natural.

Attribute of links

You might have heard about no-follow and do-follow links. Links that have a dofollow attribute will pass a link juice to your site(pass page rank). So it is always better to gather the links from dofollow sites. Dofollow links are hard to get but are important to get the rankings in search engines for a competitive keyword.

I hope next time when you start a new link building campaign you will keep the above factors in mind and  don’t forget to share your opinion about this post.
